Can I put a CU in the garden?? Save me working out what I will need out there in the way of external power??

What exactly are you trying to acheive and what exactly are you wanting to power in a garden?

I have some idea of the basics I want just now but I will want more than this eventually but not yet known. CU in the garden could be easily connected to whatever my requirements are moving forward.

Yes, but since you do not know the future load you'll have to leave plenty of capacity for future updates.

How far from the main CU will the garage be? What sort of capacity do you think you'll need straight away and then give a rough guess at how much you might want to add later.

From a seperate DNO cut out?? That sounds costly.

At present I want enough for the outside lights (perimeter lighting plus some floods) as well as some external power outlets to be used by the occasional power tool, jetwash etc and maybe a water feature later.

In addition I have a seperate buiding about 40yds from the house that will require power (for computer equipment mainly) and light. Not a huge load but quite a distance away. The CU could go in here if that was better..

Crafty was joking. As you have not decided what load you need to accomodate he is suggesting you provide large capacity.

Up to you.

As long as it can be done I am not too fussed as I wont be the one doing it, the spark will. Just like to know whats possible/sensible so I can make sure I get what I want.

Cheers

Accommodate a 40A load atleast for future expansion - for the distance you mentioned you are talking of 16mm² SWA + to overcome the VD.

Hot tub....?

If I do it will probably be quite close to the house or maybe even in the games room /gym thingamy.....

An ideal solution for the external lighting and socket circuits would be to install a feeder pillar in the garden with a metal clad unit inside with plenty of outgoing ways.
