It actually says mains powered gas detector. What the customer got was a battery powered CO detector, plus 3 years' additional warranty, for the grand total of £640.38.

I nearly cried.

you should be ashamed of yourself charging that much

still people do pay it

Let's just say this company have featured a few times on "Watchdog".

She also had a replacement CU for £1200.

The completion cert was only two pages, the page that has "departures" on was missing. The quote for the CU included supplementary & MEB's.

The gas had 4mm². The water had no visible MEB at all. There was no supplementary. Blanks were missing from the CU. The immersion circuit had not been properly tested. And there was an NIC registration number on the CC.

It is not my place to interfere. The customer has tried & failed to get redress from the installer (same initials as a certain euro organisation), so I guess they are not NIC at all....

wish i could find a couple of these silly people then maybe i wouldn't be so poor

my customers go green the minute it goes over £100

With that bill as evidence Trading Standards should be contacted before some one else is ripped off.

Have suggested that to her. To be fair, she is a very weary elderly lady who seems to have lost the will to fight this.

Do you not feel that this is something you could highlight :?: (Genuine qeustions, not a dig)

If you take it to Trading Standards and just explain that you want to avoid any conflict of interest problems, I'm sure that they will take the case onboard without involving you and will be supportive of the old lady. They have a lot of experience in this area and in my dealings with them I've been very impressed.

Don't bother with trading standards. My elderly neighbours got ripped off by a firm of plumbers - £5K to replace a loo and leaky tap (oh and all that lead piping coz it's illegal now - bet that didn't go to the tip...)

Unfortunatley I was away when it happened and I tried to fight it for them, but when letters threatening court action arrived, they just paid up - neither are well and got very stressed out.

Complained to trading standards, who did bog all, despite the firm appearing on rogue traders. They're still in the game and it makes me sick
