I want to extend a socket ring circuit which is on the usual 30 amp fuse. Can someone tell me please how many double sockets can I have in total in this one ring.

You can have as many socket-outlets as you want, providing the entire ring doesn't cover an area greater than 100m2.

As many as you want, as long as the floor area is not over 100m^2

Remember to keep them in the ring circuit, and not to keep connecting spur -spur - spur etc .
Also the total loading on the circuit should not exceed the current rating of your rcd, fuse or MCB.. Normally 32 amp

and don't forget there is a maximum total length of cable.

OSG quotes 90m for a 30A fused ring using 2.5mm cables with 1.5mm earth conductor (modern cable). Actual length may depend on exact materials/breakers etc etc.
