I have read the 7671 requirements for isolation. Just like to point that out before I start!
I have been asked to replace a very old extractor fan in a toilet (just a sink and toilet) with a new one. The cabling was 2 core and earth twin and earth and earth was used as swiched live and sleeved as earth as normal. So I pulled in a new peace of 3 core and earth cable from the fan dropped into a wall (for isolation lopped so no breaks) lopped in back up to the rose and fitted the old fan for now.
Now my parents been who they are refuse to have an isoaltor fitted in the hallway. This is a downstairs toilet accsessed from the hallway. Now if I dont fit this isolator am I missing something fundemental in the regs that state this has to be fitted?
The only thing I can find is about locations containg bath or showers and the toilet contains neather. As far as zoneing Its zone 3 as it contains a sink. There is no cross bonding in that toilet.
I know that the isolator has to be fitted outside of zones 1, 2, and 3 but if I fit it inside the toilet 2.4 meters from the sink high up is there anything stopping me doing this or does it have to be outside the room. The regs say outside the zone. After all the house CU is in the toilet and the alarm pannel.
I would like to wack it in the hallway. I would refuse to do this work but my parents inisit on using a sparky who did his regs course 10 years ago and if he fits it he said he would have just used the exsisting cable.
I am fully comptient to do the work just want to know about the regs. Ideally I would refuse not to fit an isolator and would fit it outside the toilet.
