can anyone suggest a decent suspended ceiling that can take the weight of plasterboard? have a customer who doesn't want tiles, just a flat ceiling and downlighters. at the moment it's a high flat roof on a kitchen so has crappy angle lights on a rail.
Can you hang a new ceiling from the old one, Are the roof joists of the kitchen strong enough to do that? You could fix 2 joists to opposite walls and use metal hangars to fix the joists running cross ways and strap them to the old Kitchen roof joists .Aim to finish the height at 2400mm from floor to joist. If you are boarding walls aswell take the joists up 25mm as this will allow you to board the ceiling and put 2400mm boards on the wall without messing about with cutting them...Hope this helps.
Use joist hangars for your joists and metal straps to attach them to the old joists after you have got your ceiling joists up this will strengthen the ceiling...
