Faulty Bathroom Mirror Light

Hi,

My bathroom mirror light seems to have broken!

Its a 240v, 60w, 284m, tube light.

I have tried replacing the buld twice. It started to flicker slightly several times before giving up totally. To turn the light on/off its a pull cord, not sure if this maybe the problem?

Any ideas?

have you got a multimeter?

if so can you check if power is coming into the light fitting?

could be pull cord switch..... but could be quite a a few other things aswell

would be checking id got 240v coming into the light myself.

If it flickers there may be a poor connection in the switch... the incoming cable... the clips that grip the metal caps at the end of the tube.

Flickering lamps burn out quickly.

is this a fitting with caps on the ends of the tube? or does it have caps on the sides? Either way, check there is physical resistance when you push the tube in/out.

Yeah it has caps on the sides, it can move left/right to allow you to remove the bulb. Not sure whether it should be pushed to one side or adjusted to the middle?

Look inside the cap holes on the fitting, it should be obvious where the metal contacts are, and which way you ought to push it.

Having looked at it, it seems to be the cord, pulling it at a slight left angle seems to get it to flicker and sometimes work?

Turn off the circuit and see if you can take the lamp apart. It may have a standard microswitch inside the moulded case. With luck the switch will have makers name and part no on it (if not photograph and measure it) and someone here may know where to get a replacement.

Otherwise see how much a new lamp would cost.
