the honeywell thermostat on my system appeared not to be working so i swapped it for a new honeywell 6360 analog type, wiring was like for like so easy to fit . problem is , it doesn,t appear to be working either . i have turned the temp down to 18 but the room temperatures just go up and up, until i turn off the boiler . the thermostat appears to go to a wiring loom which is connected to some motorised valves etc . the wiring also appears to go to a randall programmer which is at the side of the boiler . in other words the stat doesn,t go directly to the boiler , is this normal in old systems ? any ideas on what to check first, wiring etc cheers darren

The Honeywell stat should give an audible 'click' when it switches on or off. Mine has just done so as I write. Problem is likely to lie with either a motorised valve or the wiring, has the system worked ok previously?

How competent are you, and what equipment do you have, regarding the testing of electrical bits?

i am fairly competent with electrical stuff & i have a multimetre , do i need to do continuity tests on all the wiring etc

You will need to take a look at the type of system and how it is plumbed to work out what sort of wiring diagram has been followed.

Is it a combi boiler or is there a hot water sterage tank?

If there's a tank has a 3-port motorised valve been used to direct the flow of hot water from the boiler to CH / Domestic Hot Water?
