finding a switch

Hi,

I have called around and cannot find an answer to this but currently i have a switch outside my ensuite with 2 switches - one controls the light in the room and the other controls the fan, next to the fan switch there is a fuse

i need to replace the switch as its a bit tatty and i cannot find one anywhere

can someone please advise if these can still be sourced or a way round my issue?

I will guess you need a grid switch. These allow you to mix and match so you can have a couple of switches and a fuse in same grid. MK make them.

Hi,

its not a grid switch at the moment but just a single faceplate with the 2 switches and fuse on there so the mk grid switch will be too big

If you could post an image that would be helpful.

There might be a maker's name and part number on the back of the existnig swicth

It still looks like a grid switch, although it's not manufactured by MK. Someone will be along to sort you soon, as I remember a photo of a similar 2G plate in a kitchen being posted and identified few months back.

While such mini grid type switches may well be available, as it is very likely the fan is supplied from the lighting circuit, a normal 2 gang switch could be fitted there and get rid of the fuse completely.

there may be room but its not something i could do myself - i can wire the switch but we only want to change the front plates to something that looks better

if my only option is to put something bigger in then thats what ill have to do but i dont understand why this seems to be the only switch of its kind at this size

Fit a new 2 module grid, with a switch and fuse. Wire fan and light so they come on together - the fan going through the fuse.

If you are competent enough to isolate and look inside, then it will most likely have a make on it.
That would help you locate a new one.
Most 3 module gridstuff would need a double box
It looks similar to City electrical stuff but smaller

Does the light AND the fan both go off with the fuse removed

Masonry drill, bolster & club hammer. With care and some luck regarding the soundness of the plaster and how the existing box is fixed into place you won't even have to make good the painting.

If its an ensuite wall, may only be plasterboard.

Could be - that crack coming from the top right corner looks like it could be a plasterboard failure.

POP to put a larger accessory in then, unless there's a stud in the way.
