Finishing a coffee table top (wood stain)

    The top has been wet and dried down but there is various layers of stain varnish If i stain to desired colour am i best using a acrylic finish I am worried about spraying with standard solvent based aerosols

    we need pictures as unless it all looks the same a further covering will just look the same but covered :D

    What finish are you after? High gloss, mat, satin? Do you want to see the grain so an oil but less protection, or do you want more protection but see less grain so a surface coating like varnish?

    Use a fine sponge roller for any final clear coat of varnish?
