Read the advice. I may stick with the AICO items, were quite a good price from CEF and I know its extra cost to have them installed, but as sparkis already here why not. For the extra few quid may place them in bedrooms too. Like you say best to be safe than sorry, I have been in a fire and remember getting a bit concerned when it killed all the electrics went and the place was in darkness. No smoke alarms there I have to say!
