The problem I'm having is the back of the facing panels will be set forward from the wall (58mm gap between wall and back of facing panels) because the pillars and top piece have a gap.

I'm not sure if I'm missing a piece of it, or if some surrounds are designed to have the insert or facing panels set forward from the wall a bit.

If the insert is to butt up against the pillar directly without an extra piece, I'm wondering what to fill the gap between the insert and the wall with (80 mm - thickness of insert = 58 mm). Something heat proof, but ideally not too heavy.

Some guidance would be appreciated.

would need to se the fireplace that was going to be fitted in the opening and also a shot of the opening in the chimney breast

I've added the extra pictures to my first post

I left the facing header out of the picture to more easily see the gap.

The pillars and facing uprights are just stood in place in the photos, roughly where they should be, not fixed in yet.
