First Car

I'll join in with the oldies, my first fantastic  ride in a car was in my wife (to be) Dad's Austin 7 to the Clent Hills in 1941, distance about 7 miles. We also lived on a hill and I can still remember that little engine chugging away carrying 2 adults and 3 children in total.
Probably got there and back quicker than we would today as maybe only a dozen or so other vehicles on these roads.
My first motor was a black 1952 Austin Somerset, POC 49 and think it was from Northern Ireland?

Does this give my age away.
My first car was a 1947 Austin 10...

How did you know that, you young whippersnapper.
Bet you didn't know that first car I ever drove was an Austin 7, the ruby, it wasn't mine, it belonged to my younger brother. ;) ;)

Surely the Ruby wasn't a 7?

My copy of "Where's it from? When was it issued?" lists POC with numbers after it as dating to 1954.

The "OC" suffix was issued by Birmingham CBC.

Thanks for that info Securespark. - You're right, I phoned my elder brother who said he thinks it was a 1955 motor, and didn't realise OC was Birmingham although bought at Lisles Garage in that area.
I also got it wrong on the year we were taken to Clent Hills, it was 1945 when the ingnition leads of private motor cars were released from local police stations after the war.
Think I will confer with my better half before stating the "facts" in future.
