Hello all, i have just applied to CORGI for the first time. My initial interview with the inspector is on Monday coming. Does anyone have any ideas what they ask you after they have initially told you wot CORGI is all about etc. How long does teh interview last??

They probably change now and again, but mine was just a cosy chat. He asked what gas aplioances I'd had experience with so far, and picked on one or two technical points but nothing remotely tricky. Part of the procedure is to make sure that you look like the person who has the card/ took the tests!
The sort of question was "what would you look for that's different if you were inspecting a back boiler installation". Sleeving of the pipes I forgot about till prodded - no problem though. I would have mentioned the sealing ofthe flue liner at each end, etc

Pipe voids sealed with fibre glass are now deemed SS if the void is above half a brick size. Debris plates. Gas pipe wrapped. Correct cabling to boiler. Undersized gas pipe. Multiple terminations. Jesus, let's hope he gives you an easier time than me with an example of an 17 year old install Capricorn BBf, no ventilation and signs of spillage!!

Do they pick BBf's or any other O/F appliances as a matter of course to "test" us on?

Still, it covers the full range of mandatorary tests i suppose.

I have just trained up a chap forhis corgi and was surprised how in depth the inspector got.

Like Chris mine was a cosy chat, he liked Bacon Sarnies a lot did my old inspector.

I would not worry too much as you will have all information pummeled into you by now through ACS.

Not to say that you should have done at least 9 months work experiance, which is what CORGI told me they are looking for with chaps coming up for first time registration. So am sure you will p'ss it

now u got me a little worried, i was told they were looking for about 6 months at least, i just managed to get 7 months in!!!! not the 9 months you been told???

That should be plenty mate, don't worry you'll soon find out that CORGI changes its mind a lot

GOOD LUCk

Let us know how you did so we can welcome you to the CORGI club and really start moaning about them

why worry if you know your stuff its a doddle
if you dont you are in deep s**t
corgi inspectors (well some ) are human
worst case you lose a few bob
stop flapping
yeah i know weve been there and you aint
but the first time we did we aint either

Yes. WHen I had my corgi interview I had fitted 2 boilers, one of which was 15 years before, agin the regs. I'd never been in a fire, warm air... except on assessment day.

hey kev do u always talk ****e :D
anyway mate glad you put me straight , the flapping has ceased and now im just :P eating for britaon now

50% was an informal chat. The rest was taken up with him following me to two previous jobs. First was a cooker installation. He observed me doing the meter checks, explaining the pipework installation(sleeved through wall, etc), checking the gas rate of the boiler. Then I showed him an ongoing install across the other side of town. Basically my proposed location for the boiler, flue upgraded gas pipe. Also showed him the ID boiler!

I think they soon know if you are b/s-ing and don't know anything about gas. At the very least check you did your stuff on ACS.
