Hi folks,
My question is.......I have put 8 12v downlights with 35w halogen
bulbs in my bedroom, would i be able to fit a 400w dimmer switch???

The transformers are 230v~50Hz 20-60VA

I've been told that there are too many lights for one dimmer switch but all the lights only add up to 280w!!!!

Thanks for your help,madsey.

Are the 'transformers' dimable?
is the 400w dimmer switch suitable for dimming reactive loads?
Is there a de-rating factor in the MIs to be applied to the dimmer for reactive or halogen loads?

Some dimmers can handle Tungsten Halogen loads without derating, ie if the face value is equal to or more than the load to be dimmed, that is OK.

Others need derating. ie they need to be rated at more than the load value.

Read the dimmer instructions or talk to the manufacturers tech dept.

Hi Adam,

Yes,the transformers are dimmable.

As for your other questions, sorry i dont know.

Thanks,madsey.

What you need to do then is find a control that can dim 280w of reactive lighting load, be careful to read the small print though, the headline rating often refers to the amount of resistive and non halogen lighting load it can handle!
