here's the inside of that fitting. I think I need to put something in here to hold this whilst I unscrew the coupler. What do you think?

the flat face with fibre washer is perfect. It's where I was pointing. The female coupler that screwed on the male thread. I'd like to pull it apart and re-apply ptfe/loctite but at a loss on how I remove this now...

I would really appreciate any advice you can provide with removing this fitting as I'm desperate to get this finished. Thanks in advance.

Get a new union, take that one to a plumbers merchant and ask for one the same that can be connected to a pipe, transfer the fibre washer over and whatever connection at the other end. Then throw the leaking, unremovable joint in the bin.

I could do that but as per earlier post, all the 1" to 22mm fittings have a deeper thread than what I have on the minidue. This means that you cant tighten it fully without it touching the body of the minidue. Someone did suggest multiple fibre washers but not sure if that will bear fruit...

Put the fitting onto the mini ,with fibre washer in place. And tighten up .keep the spanner on it under torque and put a second spanner on the hex nut of the threaded fitting and undo it.

You are not tighten ing the nut up enough against the fibre washer / mini. Think about it ,the only thing keeping the threaded fitting "tight" is the PTFE. Once you get a start it should be really easy to unscrew it off.

modified jam jar technique - Put it in the freezer overnight. Then get a blow torch on the outer part "...Of the fitting after taking it out of the freezer". The differential expansion might be enough to loosen it. Just don't do yourself an injury.
You could try hot and cold water first for a simpler option

Edit thanks Terry I've amended it now:p

This makes sense...
I think I need a larger wrench rather than the water pump pliers as it will be easier to hold the large nut with the wrench. Unfortunately, its slightly larger than my current dewalt adjustable.

decent tools are always a pleasure to use, I've never regretted buying a good one, and usually wondered why I waited so long. With the right tool you will be laughing.

Apart from the case of the angle grinder - that tool is a necessary evil. Once I tried to use it inside to take up tile adhesive from the floor, that was fun:LOL:
