Fixing a cable-eye

Hi,

I am trying to mount an aerial, and need to fix a cable-eye to a metal wire. The installation manual says

"Fold one end of the lashing cable around the cable eye leaving 100mm surplus. To fix lashing cable to the cable eye separate the individual wires in the cable's surplus, and wrap them one at a time around the main cable"

Has anybody done this? Is it secured and is it really that simple?

But splicing and backlashing should be left to sailors.
