Just a little reminder.

It's there for a reason.

The lamp went bang.

Yep, don't know what temp the lamps get up to but I have seen some been replaced with some sort of clear plastic before and they have melted through.
Does Lexan discolour with heat and age too?

Had a peep on google, one site says a 300w lamp can reach temperatures of up to 970ºF which equates to somewhere around 520°C, I'd imagine a 500w lamp would be a tad warmer.
There is a small bit of distance for the lamp to dissipate the heat around via the case etc, but I still imagine that lexan wouldn't be suitable on the grounds of heat.

Glass conducts heat well, so the outer surface would have been getting just as hot as the inner.

At 135° water would form little spitting bouncing balls - ever noticed?

Can't say I have ever looked, I just know that I have seen plastic used in halogen fittings and they melt.
I have even managed to melt theatre grade gels with after prolonged use.
At work we are not allowed to use halogen work lights owing to the risk from burning, we have to use crappy fluorescents instead. I know the one I have in my garage has a handle on the top of it to allow me to adjust it when it is switched on as it is too hot to touch the body of the lamp, the paint changes colour to a slightly duller shade of yellow whilst in use.

Their colour is the only part of the spectrum they let through - the rest they absorb.

So a blue filter will absorb all the wavelengths over about 490nm, which of course will include all the infra-red energy emitted by the source. And there'll be lots of that...
