Floor joists

Thermalite blocks are not load bearing and will likely crumble. Lay a length of timber along the length of the thermalite block wall before putting the floor joists on this will help spread the load and stop the joists from damaging the blocks.

I've been using thermalite blocks in load bearing and non loading walls since the 70's and as far as I know they are all still standing.

but have you put joists directly on them or have you capped it with a strip of timber first. In my experience (limited to be sure) is that they tend not to deal with having concentrated pressure in a small area. So I have always laid a section of timber along the top.

its called a wallplate,
this is what i have/do when a thermalite wall has been built.

With floor joists they usually sit directly on the wall or on joist hangers which also sit directly on the wall. A wall plate is used for the roof however as it gives the chippies something to nail the roof to as well as spreading the load.

99% of the ground floors ive had to repair/replace have a wall plate sitting on top of the sleeper wall.
