Good morning all!

A simple question: Do regulations allow me to fit foreign sockets in the UK?

We have many foreign visitors at our installation, and this would enable them to plug in their equipment without adaptors.

Many thanks in advance for your help,

P

Assuming the "imported" equipment is not going to exceed 13 amps provide them with adapators that plug into a 13 amp socket.

Regulations may not permit fitting foriegn sockets as part of the permanent installation in the UK.

Many foreign plugs do not have fuses so the current limiting is set by the fuse / MCB in the consumer unit / distribution panel and this can require a separate fuse/MCB for every socket and a radial circuit to each socket.

Make the adaptors up as an extension lead.

Or for a professional appearance

BS7671 doesn't allow forgein sockets, BS7671 is non-statutory though, however to deviate from it is likely to be more trouble then its worth.

If your vistors are from western eurpoe.... france, germany, spain, belgium, etc, then I'd suugest you obtain either a cee 4/7 or a france/belgium power strip and replace the plug on it with a BS1363 one, hopefully any vistor's appliances will be fitted with cee 7/7 plugs (which will fit in either type of outlet) althought it is possible if they might be fitted with specific plugs, but in todays world, not that likely, and certainly any class two appliances will be fitted with two pin 'europlugs' which will definatly fit in either type of outlet
