Have fitted french doors to property, which open out to garden via 3 steps. Should i have a wider top step before accessing the garden. Someone mentioned 1 1/2 times the width of french door

You can have what you like.

Something easy to step on is the general guide to work to

450mm deep is about a small a step as you want to go. Lay the step as wide as the doors.

Bear in mind, if the french doors open outwards, you will need somewhere to stand as you open them.....
