Hi Guys

Building a single skin garage and want to know the best way to handle the gable ends. Should I build up the gable before or after fitting the roof trusses. I kind of get the feeling that it would be easier to finish the block-work after the roof trusses (and possibly the roof sheets) have gone up.

Also, one further question, do I fit a roof truss right up against the gable or do I fit a wall plate to the top?

I can post a picture of what I am talking about if it's of any help?

Thanks in advance,
Mark.

I'm toying with he idea of gable ladders. I would like an overhang if its not going to be an absolute pain. You build the ladders first and then block and pack with cement around them right?

Put one truss up so that you can build the gable to the correct height. Leave out as necessary for the restraint straps. Then do the other side.

Then set the rest of trusses out. The end ones are normally 50mm in off the wall, but you will probably have a central pier for the apex, so maybe 110mm instead.
The bracing timbers go tight up against the walls though. Then finish the verge cuts or fit the ladder and step the brickwork above the soffit line.

You'll need to adapt some restraint straps to tie into some bed joints
