Recently bought garden bench from B&Q. It is made from Roble wood which I think is a type of oak. Says on packaging do not use oils but treat with Roble Aftercare Wax which B&Q do not have and haven't really a clue as to what to use, (have suggested I use a stain!) Feel like giving it back but I like it and it was fairly cheap. Anyone with any suggestions as to treatment which will help preserve it for a reasonable length of time but will keep its present appearance (so don't really want to use varnish). Thanks, Col

Roble is more like teak, i have no idea why they say not to use oil but be on the safe side and try cuprinol 'stay new' which i think is mainly wax based. I used it last year on oak and it worked well but maybe email cuprinol for thier recommendation.

Thanks for the suggestion. Have emailed cuprinol and waiting for a reply, Col

I also have the same question with my B&Q Roble furniture. Have Cuprinol come back with any suggestions? I have spoken to a company on the internet who specialise in indoor/outdoor waxes& finishers, and they say that outdoor furniture shouldnt be waxed. Many Thanks!

Having same problem finding Roble Aftercare Wax having bought Chilworth B&Q furniture.. B&Q do not stock the wax, say they couldn't get it at a reasonable price for their customers (I'm not convinced it actually exists!). B&Q recommended Sadolin classic as an alternative. I emailed Sadolin who say 'classic' can be used but it is a stain and I don't want to use a stain. I also emailed Cuprinol who recommended asking manufacturer for advice. I have now emailed B&Q for name of manufacturer cos i don't imagine they make it themselves. A friend has suggested just leaving it un-treated and letting it 'blend in with the garden'. This is an option, but I would like to think I have a choice!I am going back to B&Q today to ask further questions. I have not unpacked my furniture yet and can see I may be returning it! I will let you know how I get on!

I have an update from B&Q... they are suggesting Cuprinol's 'Stay New' which is a wax/oil mix (500ml @ £13.48). Alternatively they are bringing in a Roble Aftercare Wax (manufactured by Osbourne Davey - 01489 889838) in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for that! I have also had some success with B&Q this morning! They contacted their scientist/technologist and he gave some useful information:-
Roble (pronounced Robley) is a species of oak. They are expecting delivery of Roble Aftercare Wax (1litre bottles) from Italy in about 3 weeks. This is a liquid wax recommended by the supplier rather than B&Q, so they have been waiting for B&Q quality approval and the product is on test at the moment on Chilworth furniture with good results. He was unable to give cost. It gives a natural warm finish and will prevent mould.
It is ok to put the furniture out now, but when wax arrives apply 2 coats on clean dry furniture indoors and allow to dry indoors for 24hours.
Also said that if using a cover for this furniture make sure it is a breathable cover. Hope this helps.

Had a phone call from B&Q this morning. Another customer has apparently ordered Roble Aftercare direct from Osbourne Davey (01489 889838). Cost her £19.98 & was delivered next day! Shipment from Italy to B&Q still expected to be in shops in about 3 weeks.

Osborne Davey Ltd represent the Bolivian manufacturer of B&Q Roble furniture in the UK. We only recommend to use the Roble Aftercare Wax treatment as this has been developed and tested specifically for the type of wood. We do not recommend using hardwood oils as these encourage black spotting and the growth of mildew on this particular wood.

The Roble Wax is currently available to purchase direct from us @ £19.99. It will then be available to purchase from B&Q within a few weeks.

For reference Roble is a naturally durable South American Hardwood grown in FSC certified natural forest in Bolivia.

Please contact us if you wish to purchase this product.

To any one who has purchased Roble Wood Furniture!!

STAY NEW CUPRINOL, WAX BASED - is the one you will need to treat

your Furniture with. Available @ B&Q!!!! ;)

Emailed Cuprinol and here is their reply:

Thank you for your enquiry.

Roble timber can only be overcoated by Roble Aftercare Wax (manufactured by Osbourne Davey - 01489 889838).

It cannot be waxed/stained/varnished etc. with our products as doing so may damage the wood.

Please do not hesitate to contact us should you have any further queries.

Thank you.

I ordered this product from Osborne Davey Ltd and it arrived the next day by Royal Mail. Very impressed with the helpfulness and speed of delivery. Very easy to paint on. Garden furniture looks great.

OK,
Have just signed up to this forum because the advice given above was truly excellent; I know this because I have confirmed it all (cynical b***ard that I am).

Firstly, went to B&Q and they recommended the Cuprinol 'Stay New' product (it is expensive).

Secondly, opened the furniture and noticed that the surface of the furniture was quite waxy and wondered how the Cuprinol paint would adhere to the product.

Thirdly, phoned Cuprinol and spoke to a nice lady called Kieran (0870 444 1111) and she told me NOT to use 'Stay New' as it was not suitable (so B&Q really are talking b***ocks).

Finally, phoned Osborne Davey on the number quoted above and they are now sending me a litre of Roble Aftercare Wax, and I don't even have to pay for it until I recieve it: How good is that?

BTW it is now £23.99 including p+p and VAT.

:D Thanks for your help everyone. :D

Just bought the Harrogate furniture and had it delivered yesterday! I've been through the same problem- been round several hardware shops- all had never heard of roble wax, including B&Q!!

This forum topic has been so helpful- so thank you everyone- I will be ordering my roble aftercare wax tomorrow so I can start using my furniture!! :D

Bad news guys went to B&Q this morning to buy roble aftercare wax and they said that they do not stock this item and they weren't going to get any in as it was too expensive .but thanks to this forum i can buy some. :(
