Hi, I have a rental property which has passed the gas cert with no advisories for year's.
The rental agent used a new company and they have put an advisory that the flue is too short.

The tenant said the gas man told him that it needs to be longer to prevent rain running in.
Does that sound right?
Is it something I can do myself?

I'm no RGI but I can answer your second question.

No, it is not something you can do yourself. (if it needs doing that is).

It's certainly fitted a little on the tight side, but it looks just off the wall enough that there shouldn't be rainwater running down the wall and getting into the flue.

You'd need a registered gas installer to alter it anyway (which in all likely hood would require a new flue being fitted)

If it was my property, and I had no issues with rain ingress up till now causing me issues I would just leave it as is. If hes not reported signs of rain ingress and damage needing repairs due to water damaged components then its obviously been ok up till now.

But yes, if fitted per the manufacturers instructions it would be the better part of an inch longer and has a rubber collar that would go round it to make it look a lot neater. More like this:

Thanks, would I be ok to fit something like this some distance away over the top to be sure?
