I have been asked to earth the gas meter to the main's earth at the CU when we replaced the boiler.
I am renovting the flat ( 1st floor ) now and have found a way to do it.
The gas main comes up the central shaft and the meter is in the kitchen.
The cable needs to run around 20 meters through walls and closets and then through a plastic trunking case to the CU.

I wanted to know what specification of eath cable should I use. (6mm/10mm/16mm).

I have seen some blogs suggest 10 for private houses. Is it different for flats as the as main is shared?

Any guidance please?

Like many questions on here, the answer can be prefaced with the words

"it depends"

But if you use 10mm² earth cable you'll be OK.

The BS951 clamp should be situated on the copper gas pipe no more than 600mm from the gas meter stop cock on the flat side of the meter.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

10 mm it is then. I guess a bundle of
25meters will set me off by 30 quid but one more tick in the box.

thanks again.

Just to point out for correctness -

You are not 'earthing' the gas pipe, you are 'bonding' it to the Main Earthing Terminal because it is already earthed somewhere else.
