Hi if i have city and guilds level 2 in plumbing would i be able to do a gas course if so what course is it ? how long is the course and what kinda costs involved?

In my opinion with nvq level 2 plumbing you still have an awful lot to learn about plumbing and systems before trying to undertake gas as well.

There are 3 different levels from which a training centre will accept or otherwise. As Mrgas has mentioned, your knowledge scope may not get you through the door of most centres. If you are looking to get into the gas side of plumbing, you should try to gain employment with a company that has gas fitters. That will be a great way of increasing your experience, because a training centre will only have a couple of boilers to train on, whereas a gas fitting firm will probably have a greater variety of equipment to service and commission. Just a thought :)

Is it the full course Level 2, IE Technical Certificate and NVQ? Or have you just done the theory (tech cert)? Either way a Level 3 (full course) would be highly beneficial, and you can do your gas as part of this. Work-based experience is the only way to learn properly though

Yes you can. You don't need any plumbing or other qualification to do your ACS, the prerequisit to becoming Gas Safe.

When you're training, there is 3 categories.

Cat 1 - Current Gas Safe engineers resitting their ACS as you have to do so every 5 years

Cat 2 - People who are qulaified in plumbing or gas to ATLEAST NVQ Level 2

Cat 3 - All new industry entrant

You fall into Cat 3 inspite of your 6129.

You will be looking between £2500-£5000 if you shop around.

You can gain funding if you take the time to look around.

just an update ive been plumbing for about 3 years working for myself so ive got work experience i was going to do the level 3 c and g but a friend had done it and said it wasnt worth the money and i thought the money would be better spent on gas instead because thats where im heading anyway i was under the impression level 3 plumbing was more if you wanted to go into management/supervision in a plumbing firm

L3 would normally include gas and unvented hot water as part of the course, and also gives you more knowledge of theory, which is more useful than you might think!
