I am involved on a project at the moment, an upgrade to a village building.

In another hall I noticed some white flush louvered grilles fixed to what looked like service boxing in the corner of the kitchen area. Are these required for the gas pipes in the boxing?

Please note, I am only involved on the funding... I'm not the plumber!

if pipe boxing is over a certain volume it is a duct and requires ventilation to allow a gas leak to be noticed before it builds up to a dangerous level, will check and post exact volume requirements later, unless someone beats me to it!!

Depends on volume and cross sectional area.
Ducts less than 0.01sq.m. AND less than 0.1cu.m. do not require ventilation. Above that requires varying amounts of ventillation.
Post details and one of us will look it up

Thanks, the duct containing the gas pipe will be 250mm x 650mm x 2400mm., this rises from ground floor to the floor void above, hence the 2400mm height.
