No surprise BMW is in there. The N46/47 is a terrible engine partly robbed from some French gash. The diesels are even worse I believe although I would never have one.


I just changed the sump gasket on an N46 yesterday and it was a real ballache and when the sump finally came out there was most of the top chain guide lying in the bottom.

Their reliability will only get worse as they get forced into low CC turbo engine by EU ecomentalists.

Not sure which Beemers the engines that you refer to are fitted. The landlady of my local bought a new 1 series BMW. In the first year, it had to have a new engine, as the cam chain tensioner went out to lunch. It's a common fault with these cars apparently. That's bad, when you think you're paying lots of money for quality.

Almost certainly the N46 engine...horrible French scrap.

TBF I don't mind some of the Skoda's apart from the horrible grilles they insist on giving them.

All the blather about where premium brand products are built is irrelevant as long as the R&D, the factory machinery, the workforce training and the breeding comes from the Main Man.

Some of the most reliable cars in the world are built by, what could be described as historically, the most unreliable car manufacturing people.

I would rather own a German car than ANY French or Italian scrap.

Japanese cars are uber reliable but also uber dull, with the exception of the odd Honda, Subaru or Nissan.

Mainstream cars though, not supercars.

You canny beat the sound of a nice Lambo or Ferrari.

French cars are the pits and have one of the most alarming new car depreciation rates on the market.

You only have to look at JD power survey to see that, yes, they may well be part of the VAG empire, but they p*ss all over VW and Audi's reliability and customer satisfaction figures.

Even an Audi salesman who I parked my Octavia TDi Elegance estate next to years ago in a Morrison's car park was impressed.

"To get that with an Audi badge, you'd have to spend twice as much...", he sighed.

OK. So the grille on my 02 model looks like the grilles on the mid 90's Rovers.

Same here about cars. I don't care what it looks like, just as long as , every time I put my key in the ignition and turn it, the bloody thing starts. A car to me, is just another tool. As long as it gets me from A to B and has room in the boot for my tools. One thing I would like though, is a device to shut the wife up. (specially on long journeys)

My sister had a VRS and it was a nice car, just didn't look it


They just look a little bland, a lot like the 90's Audis did. I still wonder how they have better reliability when most of the car is out of the VAG parts bin.
