We are all bothered about the poor Gewiss box. What about the tractor, is that OK ?

Why is there an earth cable going into a terminal block with a phase cable?

There isn't.

Or is that a single phase installation wired with 3 phase wire with one phase used as earth?

No.

It's a single phase cable with Red, Yellow and Blue cores. If you connect a phase to earth you get a lot of excitement for a very short time.

Although it is obvious, the yellow core should be sleeved G/Y, and the blue should be sleeved black.

That's a bit of a blasé reply from you.

If a sparks was called to a farm and was then was confronted by RF's pic they could assume nothing. So I'm not sure how you know it's single phase installation and the green/yellow cable in with the yellow is connected to earth?

It could be the outgoing flex feeds a 3phase motor and the farmer has just used a bit of 3core flex he had laying around?

It is single phase, just missing the SP colour markings, which in my experience didn't seem to commonly get fitted to old SWA.

There is some 3 phase in the workshop supplied from a diesel genny, but this is distrubuted round the farm using a few 32A extentions plugged into one another as and when required.

It's funny what you make of a picture on first glance.

I assumed this was a box feeding some kind of security lighting system.

The SWA in/out is permanent live, switched live and neutral. The smaller conductors are feeding a passive and the guy had no four core flex, so used 3 core, utilising the cpc as the switched live.
