Givers & Takers

The UK is too soft on these people. Force these people into chain gangs and make them march the street picking up litter. Staring at the floor ONLY. Any bad behaviour you get a thump round the back of the head or to the leg with a hard batton. And no idle chatting.

Correct. For some reason it seems to be a cultural thing in this country. Our road verges etc are horrendous with rubbish..Europe does not seem anywhere near as bad..Graffiti is widespread but not rubbish.I do not think it is all down to other countries collecting it better either. Not just maccy d wrappers..tin cans.plastic bottles..alsorts.

I think it is down to cost in Britain - perhaps unreasonable cost - charged (ripped off) for everything.

You may be interested in the system here.

No personal bins - just commercial sized bins (rubbish, recyclable etc.) in close strategic places in towns and some at intervals along country roads.

Put stuff in the relevant bin or for big items just leave beside the bins - mattresses, sanitary ware, tvs, anything is taken away or picked up by someone who wants it.
Here in a town, the bin lorry comes round about 2am. every night. Obviously they can't do everywhere at 2. Makes a bit of noise but not too bad.

So, to fly-tip, as it's called in Britain, you would have to take the rubbish farther, so for some reason people don't do it.
