Hello,

I'm probably going to need to find an electrician for this; but I was wondering if anybody here knew if it would be possible to replace a modairflow thermostat on a Johnson and Starley J25-32 heating system, with a Google Hive 3rd Gen Learning Thermostat? My understanding with the EU/UK model, the heat-link is required and isn't a simple case of just connecting the Hive thermostat and off you go.

The heating system is pretty old, the thermostat has two wires which feed from the heating system. From there, it's really a guessing game for me.

I have attached the very dated user manual for the heating system if that would help anybody here who is familiar with the Hive hardware and would be willing to check to see if it would be possible or not?

Cheers!

It seems to be 24 volt control, so any volt free thermostat will work, you say Hive and Google, thought Google was Nest so I am assuming you mean Nest gen 3? but both would work either Hive single channel or Nest Gen 3 or Nest e.

Yes sorry, keep saying Hive; I meant the Nest :)

The circuit diagram seems to show simple on/off for thermostat, but it also has it seems a 5 stage fan system, the diagram does actually explain how this works, it could be the same as selecting the pump speed with a wet system, or it could auto change, although my first house had hot air heating, I never needed to repair it, and seem to remember only one fan speed. At £60 odd I wonder what is special about it?

When I first answered I had not realised hot air, and must admit had I realised I would not have answered, it is outside my comfort area.
