Great Britain 2

Maybe, but we are always being told it is the best country in the world.

No one seems able to say why.
So this is about immigrants and the comments on here I guess?

But I agree with Ceres, people have told you their personal reasons why they think the UK is great. I think it may just be easier to tell us all what point you are trying to get at because as far as I can see, people have answered your question.

He is allowed to like and dislike things.
Just as you seem to be allowed to dislike foreigners.

Ironic really, with you being a royal fan and them being foreigners and all...

Well, while asking what actually makes Britain the best place in the world, I seem to have riled quite few jingoists even being told I was not worthy to ask.

Presumably this is because they realised that they could not actually think of anything that favourably separated Britain from a lot of other places.

So, part 2 is for those who still think the 'Great' means wonderful. P.s. it does not.

What are the things about Britain that you do not like?

https://www.theguardian.com/politic...oters-are-sticking-with-boris-johnson-for-now

Ian, a plumber from Accrington, summed it up: “I don’t know what he [Starmer] is about yet. Meanwhile I see Boris clearly. For all his flaws, I get him. I genuinely believe that he is an old-fashioned patriot. He believes in Britain, he’s not ashamed of the empire. He’s positive and optimistic. And for the time being that’s good enough for me.”

Wrap it in a flag, add some boosterism and watch the serfs sign upto to droit de seigneur.

Well I love my country but don't like the concept of Monarchy, I don't see your point.

I don't see what anyone see's in Portugal though, given a choice of a free holiday there or stay at home, I'd stay at home, safe in the knowledge I wouldn't starve for a week. But personal preference.

They did. The answers just didn't meet with your approval.
It's not whether they meet my approval or not, but mentioning things that other countries have cannot be a reason why Britain is the best place in the world.

Which other thread? The other Great Britain thread is still unlocked? Am confused!! :)
Apologies. I misread it. I was locked out of it because I mentioned someone who MIGHT be leaving Great Britain. Edit again. It was the 'Expat' thread.

Portugal is the UKs oldest ally.
The Anglo-Portuguese Alliance (or Aliança Luso-Inglesa, "Luso-English Alliance" ratified at the Treaty of Windsor in 1386, between the Kingdom of England (since succeeded by the United Kingdom) and the Kingdom of Portugal (now the Portuguese Republic), is the oldest alliance based on known history in the world that is still in force by politics[1] – with the earliest treaty dating back to the Anglo-Portuguese Treaty of 1373.

Portugal's trade agreements will be negotiated by the EU, and UK is unlikely to go to war with Spain in the foreseeable future, so the old alliance is just a historical curiosity.
