Greenland Vs NATO

If the USA did a Russia like invasion, I doubt the EU would agree to do anything about it. They aren’t united.

It could be a split in the EU as much as NATO

Von der Leyen explains that Europe is working on a package for arctic security.

It will have three points:

  1. that the soverienty of Greenland and Denmak is non-negotiable
  2. a massive investment surge in Greenland.
  3. work with the US on wider Arctic security, which she says is in both sides’ joint interest.
Von der Leyen then pledges that Europe will work with its regional partners to strengthen their combined security; including UK, Canada, Iceland and others, as it adjusts to a new security architecture.

I don’t get the “NATO would dissolve” . Trump alone cannot leave NATO. The US does not run NATO. The head of NATO has always been European. The rest of NATO has more soldiers than the USA.

If Congress was to leave NATO, the rest would continue as is.
It isn’t a European organisation, just that most members are in Europe.
The US would /could lose airbases and storage.

The funding issue is a red herring. The US spends a vast amount on its military. However that is partly just to support their defence industry. They have so much kit they gift it to their police forces as they can’t keep storing stuff.
If you calculate the western/eastern split of US spending, the split between Pacific and Atlantic funds, the US is underspending in terms of GDP spending dedicated to NATO.

Oh - and the US can have 100 times more tops on Greenland simply by telling Greenland.
Arguing that 100 years ago a national “sold” land is no longer legal in the 21st C.
By Trump’s reasoning, Russia could claim Alaska back.

Trump also claims that “just because someone lands a few boats doesn’t mean they have a right” is interesting news to the American First Nations.

Canada is closer to Greenland than the US.
The US is closer to Russia (geographically) than Canada.
2.5miles.

that distance is between the Diomede Islands. One is Russian the other American.

The mainland distance is much further. 45nm

So simply put, who on here believes that the US should annex Greenland...

It's not a loaded question, just a simple yes or no is required...

Time to put up or shut up, with no caveats...

I say no.
No from me.

Trump has actually said said something today I agree with - ulp! Giving the Chagos islands away is stupid!
