Grey squirrels

At Woburn Abbey they have a charcoal grey/black variety of squirrel.

They are not part of the collection but can be seen going around the park.

Been around since the 1870s apparently , reds are seen in pockets on the IOW, Formby on Merseyside, around the N Lakes and Scotland from memory, and sightings

Think they came from North America, might be wrong, but wherever they came from, they almost wiped out the indigenous red squirrel. Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour is another haven for red squirrels.

Yes, they are a North American import. Rabbits are reputed to have been brought to the UK by the Romans.
