My combi boiler has a Grundfos 15-50 pump. The pump has just started making unusual noises intermittently and varies in volume. Not sure if it is racing or jammed or has dirt in it but seemed very hot when touched. I can hear a hum sound and can feel it vibrating so could be working. Hot water isn't getting to the radiators and boiler is cutting out. Pump is running on setting 3.

Is there a way I can check myself if there is a problem with the pump. If it is jammed can be freed, if there is grime in it, is it easily removed.

My neighbour suggests removing the silver cap at the front of the pump and inserting a screwdriver to test if is jammed. Not sure I trust him - would boiler have to be drained to do this.

Looking for advice.

drain the boiler and remove the pump head (4 allen key screws) and check the impeller (the shaft sometimes snaps.)

Pressure gauge showing 1.5 The boiler is a Protherm

In which case, yes you can do this. it can be done whilst filled, but some water will come out, have some kitchen roll handy.

If that doesn't work, you can try this as suggested

drain the boiler and remove the pump head (4 allen key screws) and check the impeller (the shaft sometimes snaps.)

Also make sure the air bleed is loose

Thanks - will give it a try tomorrow morning and let you know how I get on.

Thanks again for your suggestions
