Hand Dryers

Went To Armoury in Leeds today (by-the-by).

Toilets have pillars with two Warner Howard World Dryers on each (plate rates them at 10A a piece, including 1A motor).

Each pillar is fed by one 13A switched fused spur. How so?

Did you try turning them both on at the same time?

Do they have interlock to prevent using both at once?
How long would a 13Amp fuse take to blow at 20Amps? The answer might suprise you

it is indeed possible that the fuse is wrapped in foil

failing that it will probablly take quite some time for a 13A fuse to blow at 20A, maybe the things are simply very rarely on together for long enough to blow one.

How do you know each pillar was only fed with a 13A FCU? If you could see the wire coming down, then I could understand.

Anyone used those hurricane hand dryers? The new ones that blow your hands away? The force of the air blows the water off your hands!

Each pillar had a 13A spur atop it. When that spur was switched off, both hand dryers stopped working.

Yes, I did fire them both up at once! No interlock.

No, there was no foil in the fuse carriers...

Can a 13A withstand 20A? Must look it up....

How long are the driers on for when used.Are they used regularly.The fuse might only just start pre-arcing as the drier switches off.

Do you look up at the Cistermisers when your at the Urinal RF?

Well, I couldn't see any.

RF. Don't know if the loos are different, but these were on the 2nd floor just next to the caff.

Can a 13A withstand 20A? Must look it up....

Bussman say 1.6xIn for a minimumof 30 minutes

(1.9xIn for a max of 30 minutes btw)

Bad design, but will probably never fail

EDIT: typo on part in brackets fixed...1.9 not 1.6

Well there you are, 20.8A!

As you say, bad practice as if you need to decomission a dryer, both go OOS.
