My last post described a hall light switch that gave a shock when a metal face plate was fitted, in spite of being earthed. The lamp wiring has now been inspected.. it's a huge mess and it looks indeed like one of the earths is connected to a live, explaining the shock. So it's currently staying switched off until the lapm can be rewired properly. There are 5 cables in total attached to the lamp and 4 terminal blocks (T1-T4) wrapped up in insulating tape. Any ideas why there are 5 cables and how an ordinary light fitting could be re-wired to all these...
Cable 1: L>T1; N>T4; E>T1
Cable 2: L>T2; N>T4; E>T1
Cable 3: L>T2; N>T3; E>T2
Cable 4: L>T2; N>T4; E>T1
Cable 5: L>T2; N>T4; E>T1
The lamp is connected L>T3; N>T4
Thanks.
