What's this about?? :?

Shame she did not have a Chq book! Certainly would of sorted this whole problem out...Boing ...Boing!

Wouldn't be clever to stop a cheque.
You'd be likely to get either a debt collection agency taking legal action against her (and winning), or the stop cock in the pavement being turned off with a bag of concrete poured in the hole.

they do deny it but their isnt software you can buy thats rubbish i have the paperwork to prove it , and the insider training to know it is going on.

Dont sit on the fence twittering about it!

Spill the beans man.

This post is about a solo 2pf with a fan thats blowing the fuse on a pcb that would have gone sooner or later anyway.

I think you have something that you need to get off your chest but are confusing us all by putting it on this post.

I understand your point BTW. I remember a friend of mine took the back off his portable tv and found a switch to turn teletext on. This was in the days when it cost another 30 quid or so for a teletext tv

If he is struggling to work on a Solo. Then sorry but this guy should not be touching boilers with out some basic understanding::

also another great one is if you buy a certain boiler and say you want 28kw of power you can buy the same range boiler at say 14kw for example the boilers are exactly the same all you do is change the settings in the codes of the boiler so you could save yourself alot of money.although you wouldnt know how to do it unless you know how to on the display settings

The only boiler im aware of that this can be done on is the broag remeha avanta plus combi. I was told that if you buy the 35kw version you can adjust the settings at engerneer level to up it to a 39kw. Maybe this is true on certain boilers.

And about manufactures making it harder for the 1 man bands, i think they are making it easier with putting the fault diagnositics on them so the fault can be easliy pin pointed. Only problem is the customer has a slightly better chance of knowing whats wrong with them too and having a go at repairing them.

I go on serveral manufactures courses all the time and it is quite hard keeping up but i t costs me money time off work and fees etc to keep up so when it comes to repairing a boiler these days it has to be passed onto the customer. So £240 for a repair doesn't sound excessive to be honest if a pcb was purchased although the guy should come back and resolve the problem. He could always put the old pcb back and not charge for the new one as i have had to do this a few times. Just a bit of a pain when you end up with a rare pcb for a boiler that you know you won't use again.

to back up what the plumbing miracle is saying i know of one manufacturer that is doing this to a range of boilers unless you have been on the course and got the service pack you cannot alter/adjust or reset the parameters on the boards, the mi shows 10/15 faults the service pack shows 32 plus how to adjust the boards for different models,

i carry out work for three major manufacturers of boilers, the latest condensing boilers have secret diagnosing codes which the average corgi reg installer wouldnt get access too.It isnt in the installation guides. So to be fair to the corgi guy manufacturers are making it more and more difficult to diagnose faults.
Although the boiler in question isnt a hard boiler to work on.
The cost of one manufactuters pcb is £8.00 this is what they can get it for. The cost to the regular corgi engineer is £129 plus vat.
Manufacturers are squeezing the one man band out of business. It is an unfair trade advantage which i believe should be looked into by the office of fair trading because working on the latest gas boilers is going to be alot harder in the future, without this insider information

It's OK guys you can rest assured Alpha haven't done this to you, the only thing they don't say in the manual is how to put the boiler into engineers mode and how to set co2 and gas pressure, but a slip of paper when you buy the sensetive part tells you, so you are told when you need to know.

I did suggest a section of ARGI forum where we could share privy information with one another and therefore keep up with the game.

lets say you go to a job and you think its the pcb you go and buy it at great cost and put the new pcb in and boiler still doesnt work, for example lets say its the fan that did go wrong, you fit the fan,and take out the new pcb that u bought thinking that the old pcb will work again,it wont because as soon as you power up the new pcb it registers the new board and wont let you fit the old board back ! it just wont work again !

Conversely to the is approach Alpha pcb's are vertually cross compatible across the range so you need to stock less, there is noneof this above nonsense going on, and you can even fit the wrong pcb i.e. the one for the dual flow heat exchanger, in the cb range and it will work initially but fail when you run a hot tap as it won't start the pump, and vice versa.

It would be useful for us to know which manufacturers you are talking about so we can avoid fitting their boilers.

I repeat we do need to privately inform one another on the argi forum any such knowledge in one anothers interests. We should see argi as a sort of union in which we can stand together against the vagueries of odpm local authorities notifying bodies and now it seems manufacturers. It is already hard to survive in the job, let's support each other and not bicker. I certainly want toknow which manufacturers miracle is talking about so I can avoid there boilers.

In the day and age when manufacturers are strugling to find competent people to fix their boilers this practice seems counter intuitive.

As for manufacturers diagnostic codes, about as much use as a one legged man in an arse kicking contest. You have to use all your senses and wit to correctly fault find and then some. Seldome does a pretty bank of lights do much good.

diagnostic codes can help but when the boiler displays a fault which they have not encountered that is when the fun begins

The gc number is the stock number from where the part was held at British gas national distribution centre thats why I ask.
The terminal blocks only really crumble if you try to remove them although he must have noticed that when he checked the resistance across the fan

The gc numbers was on the empty box he left!

He did not give a reciept as he apparently did not have none left or none on him!

Re agile thats a good idea to spread the word but i think this one works for a bigger firm!

I did a search on ebay for that part number and the cheapest i saw was £32 Brand new!

I read on the a1-gas forums that the Heat inside these units makes a 5 way terminal block crumble and drop parts into the fan rotor. causing Fan rotor to stall and stops the airflow thus causing Pressure switch to go off hence so boiler shuts down! SOLUTION: Clear terminal debris and fit a new terminal block. Lubricate motor bearings which were dry. Replaced pressure switch microswitch, which had unreliable connection across one of the contact pairs (Would this be true)

I totally agree with you Paul that ARGI members SHOULD share this kind of information with each other but unfortunately ARGI members are not keen to.

There are already three ARGI members here who are keeping what they know pretty quiet by merely alluding to it.

RGIs should stand together to help each other. We have enough problems to face within the industry without being secretive to each other.

Tony

hold your horse's god  no one is being secretive about anything, you are forever telling people how good you are with boilers with your talking down and belittling tones  get off your backside and do what the rest of us mere mortals do BOOK YOURSELF ON THE COURSE and learn or are you that self rightous it is beneath you to consider this
