It sounds like a combi...The pressure should be about 1 bar...If it is and the job is inside..It will pizz water everywhere until the pressure drops..You will never get a fitting on at that stage
 
That gauge reads just over 1 bar.
So if i switch off the boiler at the wall & open a radiator valve to let some water out the pressure will drop.
When its down to the red i can cut the pipe.
Once pipe is capped i can then fill tank in boiler to 1 bar again then switch it back on

Spot on...Will still be water there but hell of a lot more manageable if pressure at zero.
