So what is Carol?

She’s obviously a Honeywell T6360 mech stat. Classic in the day and not ugly now, but looking a touch dated

I could ask you the same, however I like the mirror finish of the Hive. At the end of the day it is not a bad IOT thermostat if you just want to replace a conventional mains thermostat and are not bothered about the more advanced features that the Nest has such as motion detection.

You can expand Hive to do motion detection. My Hive turns internal & external lights on / off, does heating & hot water, triggers an alarm siren etc etc all notified to my phone on a pre-determined schedule. All installed with no wiring changes at all.
