Mine has 5 cables (broken spring) and the replacement has only 3. Any advice please. :(

Doesn't matter what colour they are Ben, its a diverter valve, the OP needs a flow share valve as Kev has posted.

Easy to fit provided it's not the 4screw model.

Turn the electric off, and snip the old wires, leaving a short length in place, you can then change the wires over, one at a time without getting them wrong.

Thanks all, been seen off.
Did you buy it off Ebay? If so, that's tough - unless the advert was misleading. In which case contact Ebay.

If you bought it from a shop, did you ask for the valve by name, e.g Honeywell V4073, or just tell the retailer you wanted a three port valve. Even if you did, he should have still asked sufficient questions to make sure you got the correct one. Take it back and demand your money back. If they refuse, tell them you will be contacting Trading Standards - and then do so.

I know it won't work, just never seen a valve with only 3 wires.
some OLD systems that had HW priority had them, as did some thermal stores.
When I was a wee apprentice we were taught to spec these would mean you could reduce boiler size by 3Kw as the heaing and hot water couldn't be on together (times were hard back then lad)

The old 'W' Plan IIRC

Works well, but the BSP fittings are a pain.
