hi there, just moved into new house which has hot air heating.

ive never come accross it before so quite oblivious to how it works!

the pilot light is on, but when i adjust the thermostat, nothing seems to happen??

am i missing something? or is it up the creek?

if anyone knows what to look for, all help is greatly appreciated!

steve

Used to srvc an old convector gas air heater which had a expansion valve etc to make it work required no electrics could this be what you have?

warm air heaters usually have a segment time clock on them somewhere. select eithe I or a symbol of the time with the corect segment position for on. Experiment. Then make sure thermostat is calling.

when there us a call for heat the main burner fires up a short while aterwards a fan usually on top starts and warm air is delivered through grills around the house. There should be a slide out gause tray just beneath the fan portion which will be full of lint that needs cleaning.

Make sure that you nor anyone else has covered the essential ventilation to outside air for the unit to be safe.

Warm air heating is best to be serviced as it could be quite dangerous if not checked properly.

this unit must be an antique! no electric anywhere on the thing.

all i got is igniter, gas feed and thermostat adjustment nob.

make things any clearer? will have a look to see if there is excess lint kicking around

thanks for the response by the way everyone

right then this is a old bit of kit and recommend you get an inspection by a corgi bloke on it but tell them what you have before the visit as they may be none the wiser how it works then you,Good luck with spares.

i just had a good look round it and it must be an old convection unit as there are no pipes leading off and no fans.

think your right, i best call out the big dogs to inspect the system!

thanks for everyones input, worth a try

Some of the old Halsteads are old convection only units with no fan.

They sit on the ground floor and are just a heated lump which then dissipates heat around the house by convection only.

Believe it or not, you can still get parts for some models, we replaced part of a water heater on one earlier in the year.
