I have a Hotpoint FTCD871 heat pump tumble dryer which I inherited with the house. It's not very old and hasn't had much use.

It's located next to a washing machine so would make sense to have been plumbed into the water outlet, however the water bottle fills up so I'm assuming it isn't.

Ever since I moved in, the dryer flashes up saying the filter needs cleaning and the water emptying. I've cleaned both filters thoroughly and emptied the water and still this message appears. I understand from the instructions that this message is automatic and should disappear once the tumble has been operated again for a few minutes, and I don't need to do anything to tell it that I've done these things.

Does the fact this message is there all the time indicate there's a problem somewhere?

Do you mean when you start to use the machine after doing the maintenance the error message does not disappear as the manual says it should? If so the only thing I can suggest is that they sometimes have a float switch that detects the water level in the tank & stick up in the actuated position.

Yeah, the message appears to be there all of the time, despite having cleaned the filters and emptied the tank several times. The dryer seems to be working fine which is why I've not done anything about it for so long, but I figured there must be something wrong either with the dryer or what I'm doing!
