Hi guys,
My son's just called - seems his tumble dryer has stopped spinning, but is still heating. Sounds like the belt has gone to me, but would appreciate any other suggestions.

Is belt replacement a major issue on TDs, or would I be able to sort it out?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm surprised at that Breezer, pretty common problem.

Whole front of the machine will come off, lot of stripping down to do.
If it's a stretch belt you're going to struggle to fit it.
Hotpoint engineers have special tools to fit them.

if there was a tool i never got one

just slipped them over the drum and round motor pulley, then fight liike F to get the jokey wheel onto the belt for tension. worst ones were where it had 2 jokey wheels, 1st one was always easy

as sleepyhead said take top and front off to put new belt on, dont be tempted to remove back bearing.

You must have been out of the "game" for a while now Breezer.
All stretch belts and no jockey wheels.
The tools are for fitting the stretch belts, one tool for vented and a different tool for condenser.

Yes, broken belt is one of the most common faults on all makes of tumble driers, including 10+ year old Hotpoints

well i never saw one, but then when i saw them they were not 10 years old

This one's only just over a year old!
Mind you, it gets a good thrashing probably every day... maybe it's had a nervous breakdown due to overuse... they've a baby and another on the way!

Personally I don't like this idea of stretch belts and no tensioner jockey wheels. Hotpoint will tell you they did it for quieter operation but in truth it was to shave a few pennies off the manufacturing cost. In reality they are probably spending more than they saved in extra warranty work. Dryer belts already had a shorter life than the washing machine equivalent because of the higher operating temperature but the extra tension gives them an even harder life.
