Hi our wf740 hotpoint 1400 spin washer had error f5 and been fixed by blowing down the pipe etc but has now melted the plug socket that the extension cable used was in any ideas what this could be?

Yep - a lot of these things are Chinese tripe.....you need a quality cable (or at least the ends need to be) made by British MK or similar.
With the heater on, your machine will be drawing lots of current that only quality goods will be able to handle.
