I had a new shed, with the idea of emptying the garage and shed into it, and getting rid of the old shed and garage, then getting a new garage. So two jobs to do, get power to it, and install some shelves, considered making my own, but at this price

not really worth the effort, or so I thought, each shelf has two tags in each end, which slot into the uprights, and easy for tag to go wrong side of the pressing on uprights, so it has been a screwdriver to prise open the tags slightly, a hammer to knock them in, and a pointed nose pliers to bend the tags, where required, started at 2 pm, by 4 pm still not assembled the first one. Ran out of time. The shelves are good, but I never expected it to take so long to assemble them.

Bring back Dexion slotted angle, all is forgiven, but looked at the price, and that was silly, never gave it a thought when I sold last house, just left it in the garage, 40-year-old and still good.

Think when I get a new garage, I will have to look at something else.

I use the plastic ones, where the legs are in sections and plug into the corners of the shelves. Never rust or rot, and strong enough for all practical purposes. They have a clamp so you can screw the tops to the shed wall for rigidity.

Last time I bought I used Big Dug, but it's cheaper and nastier than it used to be.

The metal lugs don't hit home and the MDF shelves are stingy.

But then everything is getting cheaper these days.

Look at IKEA today compared to the early 90s. The Billy bookcases were much sturdier. The case and shelving were much more rigid, as were the pins supporting them.

My Fil bought Billy cases a year ago. The shelves have bowed badly and the pins have fractured.

The pins are no longer substantial steel ones but very thin cast Al.
So his handyman fitted screw in pins and turned the shelves around. He advised heavy books at the edges and lighter ones in the middle.

Took me 4 hours to put up a curtain rail! In my defence it is in a bay window which had to be marked out, measured, brackets, bent, cut, joined, and pull cords measured and adjusted.

Once built, they looked good 1755377230502.png now I am slowly moving the stuff out of the garage into the shed, then it is a new garage, things were not helped with lack of light, should have done that job first.
