How did it become unacceptable?

It is not acceptable to call someone from Pakistan a P - a - k -i .

But how did it become unacceptable?

In my younger days I travelled to many other countries and never, ever though to take offence at being called a Brit.

Both are just abbreviations are they not?

We even have the Brit awards, is this a racist thing?

Are we being racist when we call those from over the borger Scots?

My name is John, at school I was called Paddy because my surname is very Irish. Old school friends still call me paddy, should I be offended.

Just a thought

I fail to see how an abbreviation can be offensive

Prob started about the same time as the do gooders ruining this once great country

yes but would you take offence at being called French, German or even a Scot if you're English??

same thing, it was used as a generalisation for anyone of a certain look and skin tone and from a certain area of the world..

it is used frequently as a derogatory term; effin paky, paky b*stard etc

Presumably the terms "Aussie" and "Frenchie" are equally proscribed.

In your world, homosexuals are kweers or poofs.

In your world, black poeple are darkies or n*gg*rs.

In your world, Indians are abdul or sanjay.

change the batteries on your hearing aid, there calling you a twit, not a brit!

yeah but it depends on the meaning you put on it

Quite so kev, or indeed the context in which chosen words are used.

Language is a complex thing but an insult is very basic and intentional.

Intelligent people can choose in what way a sentence using similar words is spoken. Whether it be directed as malicious or affectionate. It ain't rocket science.
