best bloke I ever saw/watched doing lead work was a GPO cable jointer closing up joints in Lead sheathed cables with Lead joint sleeves using gas torch and (jointing) solder.

A difficult job as the wires in the cable are insulated with paper wrapped around the individual wires, the joins in the wires insulated by paper sleaves.
