highlight something on a laptop with a touch pad?

Its driving me crazy!
(and I don't like the 'flush' keys! )

Double tap the pad as if you were double clicking, but on the seocnd tap don't lift off the pad and instead drag across to highlight... awkward at first, but quickly becomes second nature
