How much do you trust an indicator?

Reality is, whatever the Highway Code says, almost everyone does interpret it as giving way.

If you were to plough along a main road at 60mph flashing your lights at people in side roads you'd end up in a mangled wreck pretty soon. You could groan "I was just warning you of my presen..." from inside the twisted ball of metal, make your point of principle with your last breath.

...or just accept reality!

The reality is that there are people out there engaged in "cash-for-crash". Anybody who pulls out because they think the reality is that the other driver is giving consent for them to do so risks becoming a victim of that.

The biggest issue with headlight aim, and beam pattern is aftermarket LEDs put into old style headlamps. Over 90% of all headlamp failure in my experience, and that of other testing stations that I talk to (nationwide).

Fail them at the MOT, usually to howls of protest. Only to know that as soon as they have passed with the correct bulbs in they will be changed again..

The MOT is a test on 1 day of the year. What happens on the road is down to police enforcement. But we've cut all that back to save money . These services cost tax.

Reap what we sow.
They're awful, but lots of the newer cars are just as bad. And they are factory-fresh, just as designed.

I hope there'll be lots of MOT failures when the current crop need their first MOT. But I suspect not because, as far as I can tell, MOT testers just don't know what they're supposed to test or deliberately turn a blind eye to keep the customer happy.

There will be.

Some might. Most don't.

There will always be dodgy MOT testers and sites. But the vast majority just apply the rules they are given.

What you have to factor in is the amount of people that go " can't you just let it go and I will get it sorted tomorrow"

You might not believe how many there are like that. I encounter a few virtually every week.

The MOT is just a snapshot view of a car on 1 day out of 365

You need to address where the real problem is. And that's the lack of police out on the road. CandU regs out trump the mot test , but never really applied, unless the vehicle is involved in a major incident. Too late then though.

The few dodgy mots aren't the main peoblem

Seriously. Look at your foot.

You don't even understand do you
AI Overview

The term "thug" is a colloquialism, but there are documented cases of MOT testers engaging in serious criminal behaviour, including violence and significant fraud.

Examples of Criminal Conduct
  • Violence and Threats: In a specific case, Thomas Moulds, an MOT mechanic, was jailed for threatening to kill a colleague with a blade and using racial abuse at a Hull MOT centre. He was sentenced to two years and seven months in prison for these and other unrelated assault and harassment charges.
