How much to change a mains stop cock?

Hello people. I need your views on some quotes I have got. The stop cock at my house is completely seized , and its also slowly dripping water. I have had plumbers out who say it needs replacing.

One quoted £250, another quoted £300!! Are these prices fair for the east midlands, nottingham area or am I about to be ripped off?

I would be prepared to try and change it myself but I think this may be beyond the scope of a DIY'er?

You could do it yourself for about a tenner, but then again you could flood your house.

If you can turn off the main supply valve in the road / street, then after draining system replacing the stop cock should be fairly easy, provided you have the correct tools.
